This cohort is designed for early career assistant principals (APs). Participants may register for all three sessions at a reduced price or may register for each session individually.

Descriptions for each session are listed below:

Building Your Platform: The Power of Teaming

October 9, 2024

In every leadership role, at every level of authority, working effectively with teams is essential. The goal of teamwork is to generate multiple ideas, divide assignments, and build on relationships. As an AP you are asked to both lead teams and perform as a subordinate in the larger team led by your principal. What are the most prudent actions in each role, as leader or as team member? In this session, build your leadership platform by learning how to lead in team situations and how to be a valued team member when your role is to follow others.

Executing the Strategic: Implementing Projects as an AP

January 7, 2025

The role of the AP is multi-faceted and often requires immediate short-term attention to a variety of demands.  At times, however, the role also involves the long-term as APs are asked to lead strategic project initiatives from inception to completion, planning steps to achieve a quality outcome, on time and on budget.  This session will provide knowledge and practice in the skills of project leadership, critical for succeeding in today’s rapidly changing and high-stakes environment.

Stepping Up to Conflict as an AP: The Art of Difficult Conversations

March 5, 2025

Assistant principals are accountable for effective results in many different areas of responsibility.  In almost every area of the job, friction can and does arise between and among staff, parents, and students.  Where unaddressed or even open conflict exists, results will not be optimal.  Assistant principals must be mindful of the role they play in these situations.  The purpose of this session is to provide knowledge and skills required to successfully understand and manage the kind of conflicts that arise in an AP role, including assessing emotional triggers, examining personal values that cause conflict, and exploring better ways of addressing conflict.
