Platinum Principal Program - 2019

Columbia, SC US

The Center for Executive Education Leadership (CEEL) Platinum program offerings have been designed to help you in your professional and personal growth. Participants in the platinum program must attend all three sessions.

Descriptions for each session are listed below:

Fiscal Management

October 8, 2019

A school principal, the senior leader in an elementary school, middle school or high school, is responsible for the overall operation of the school. In the 20th century principals initially worked as school managers, but with time the duties of the position have multiplied.  In this session participants will explore and gain greater understanding of the fiscal responsibilities of the role, including preparation of a school budget as a record of projected revenue and expenditure; monitoring the school’s fundraising activities to ensure the funds are used for the appropriate purpose; and accounting for the school’s revenue and how it is spent.  In addition, participants will discuss common pitfalls many administrators face when dealing with athletic budgets, donations and sponsorships.

Strategic Thinking

December 3, 2019

Leaders often experience difficulty formulating a vision and planning effectively for its implementation. And seldom are the decisions made by a leader a response to a single issue or question. Patterns of thinking and disciplined decision making are learned over time. To be an exceptional leader, one must learn to think and act strategically. In this session participants will examine their strategic abilities for planning effectively and executing actions that enable their vision for school improvement.

Delegating Effectively

February 5, 2020

Typically principals are neither able nor expected to do everything themselves.  The consequences of trying to do so can be dire.  That’s why the ability to delegate effectively is an essential leadership skill for the principal.  Delegation starts with creating an environment based on trust and establishing a rapport with colleagues to better align tasks with their competence and interests as individuals.  Delegation is not merely allocating task assignments; rather, it involves giving someone the authority to do something that is usually part of the leader’s job.  This session will develop your skill in implementing the process of delegation including determining what to delegate to whom, and how, ultimately resulting in more discretionary time for work that only you can do.
